Benny was a little brown rabbit with silky hair who resided in a nice burrow beneath the roots of an ancient oak tree. He was quite scared of a lot of things. He was very much looking forward to going to Forest School for the first time tomorrow. He had a feeling that there were butterflies in his stomach.
"What if the other animals do not like me?" He muttered to his mom as she tucked him into bed with grass and flower petals. "What if I lose my way?" "What if I am not smart enough?"
Mama Bunny kissed Benny on the nose softly. "Do not worry, little rabbit. Everyone feels nervous when they start anything new. But do you realize what it actually means to be brave?
Benny shook his head, and his ears fell in concern.
"Being courageous does not imply you are not terrified," Mama informed her. "It implies you do your best even when you are terrified."
Benny hopped along the edge of the woods to school the following morning, his paws shivering. He heard squirrels conversing happily, saw a juvenile deer practicing her leaps, and spotted a family of raccoons having breakfast. It seemed like everyone already knew each other.
Benny stood behind a mushroom and watched without saying a word. He did not want to join in since he was too bashful. Then he noticed something: a little field mouse sitting alone beneath a bush, looking just as afraid as he was.
The mouse's whiskers twitched as she peered about at the larger creatures. Benny noticed after a time that she appeared scarier than he did. Because he was so compassionate, he jumped over to her immediately.
Benny said "hi" softly. Benny is the name. Are you terrified too?
The small mouse's eyes brightened up with happiness. "Yes!" Mia is my name. I was worried that everyone would grow up and forget about me.
"Do you want to remain together?" He asked Benny. "Let us be terrified together; it could help us both feel better."
Mia gladly nodded, and Benny's heart was filled with love and confidence.
When Mrs. Owl called everyone in for circle time, Liz and Mia sat next to each other. Mrs. Owl invited each kid to say something that made them special.
Benny's voice was faint and little at first when it was his time. "Hi, I am Benny, and I want to make other people feel better." As he spoke, his voice became louder. "Today I also made a new buddy!"
A lot of the animals grinned and begged Benny and Mia to play with them during break.
Mama Bunny noted how cheerful and brilliant Benny looked as she put him to bed that night.
"How was your first day, my courageous little bunny?"
Benny sighed with happiness as he got into his warm bed. I was still terrified, but I helped someone else who was scared too, Mama. What do you know? I forget how anxious I felt about myself when I was polite to Mia.
Mama kissed him on the forehead and said, "That is what courage looks like." Brave little Benny, I hope you have beautiful dreams.
